Steamer Trading finds recipe for success at Bluewater with its first out-of-town store

Press release

Land Securities has today announced that Steamer Trading Cookshop is to open at Bluewater, Europe’s leading retail and leisure destination.  The family-run multi-award winning company, which specialises in cookware and homewares, has taken a 3,900 sq ft two-level store trading on Bluewater’s upper Thames Walk. Opening this October, Bluewater is Steamer Trading’s first store in a retail and leisure destination.

The news coincides with a very strong performance from Bluewater.  Sales in July were up by 8.1% compared to the same time last year, significantly ahead of BRC-KMPG’s figure of -0.3% for the UK as a whole. In addition, sales in Q2 were 6.1% higher than 2013, and year-to-date sales are 5.2% up versus last year.

Commenting on the addition of the Steamer Trading Cookshop to Bluewater, Russell Loveland, Portfolio Director at Land Securities, said: “Steamer Trading is another great addition to Bluewater’s line-up of premium brands.  They are a point of difference for Bluewater, and join existing brands, such as Cath Kidston and John Lewis, in appealing to the large numbers of affluent consumers living in the South East for whom Bluewater is the destination of choice.”

Ben Phillips, Managing Director of Steamer Trading Cookshop, added: “From our very first site in Sussex, we have considered each store location for the Steamer Trading Cookshop very carefully. Bluewater is an important step for the brand, being our first non-High Street location, and meets our requirements perfectly.  Bluewater is a high quality location, we are in great company and, as a brand, its loyalty amongst consumers in the catchment is second-to-none. Bluewater will be a flagship store, from which we can fully showcase our fantastic range of the very best kitchenware.”

Steamer Trading operates from 31 locations nationwide, and stocks a wide range of kitchenware, homeware and cooking brands from leading names in the industry.  These include KitchenAid, Dualit, Joseph Joseph, Magimix and Le Creuset, which is currently operating a highly successful pop-up store on Bluewater’s upper Rose Gallery. Steamer Trading is ten times winner of ‘Best Cookshop in the UK’, and won the ‘Global Innovator Award’ in 2010, which marks out the brand as one of the very best homeware retailers in the world.

Steamer Trading Cookshop is the latest in a series of leading UK and international brands to open at Bluewater this year, joining Victoria’s Secret, Pink, adidas Homecourt, Jo Malone and Five Guys.  In addition, American Eagle is currently fitting out its debut UK store on Bluewater’s lower Thames Walk.

CBRE acted for Bluewater.  Steamer Trading Cookshop was represented by Reid Rose Gregory.
